Drug Side Effects

Southern Illinois and Missouri Drug Side Effects Lawyers

When we take a drug that has been prescribed by a doctor, we expect that the drug will improve our health, not harm us. While many drugs have side effects, we expect that our doctor will know about these side effects and be able to warn us. In recent years, however, we have learned that many pharmaceutical companies suppress or delay releasing information about dangerous drug side effects because they fear those warnings will reduce drug sales. This failure to warn can create a products liability case if consumers are harmed by the drug.

When pharmaceutical companies ignore their duty to warn consumers of drug side effects, the lawyers at Weilmuenster & Keck, P.C. will represent the injured. From our office in Belleville, Illinois, we represent drug injury victims throughout Southern Illinois and the greater metropolitan St. Louis, Missouri, area.

We have all heard of drugs such as Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra, which are linked to cardiovascular problems such as heart attack and stroke. However, there are many other drugs that are known to have dangerous side effects. A small sampling includes:

  • Baycol, a drug prescribed to lower cholesterol and reduce heart attacks. The drug caused muscle cell breakdown, leading to more than 30 deaths before it was recalled.
  • Vytorin, a drug designed to reduce artery-clogging plaque in patients with high cholesterol. The drug, which combines cholesterol-lowering Zetia and the statin Zocor, works no better than a generic drug in clinical tests and puts patients at needless risk for side effects such as rhabdomyolysis and liver damage.
  • Ortho Evra, a birth control patch linked to heart attacks, strokes, embolisms and blood clots.
  • Zelnorm, a drug used to treat irritable bowel syndrome that has been linked to heart attack and stroke.

If you or a loved one has been injured by a prescription drug, contact our lawyers for a free initial consultation. We represent drug injury victims on a contingency fee basis, meaning we are paid only if we obtain compensation for you.
